Right Business Credit Cards

Grow Your Business With the Right Credit Card Offers

Small business is a staple to the economy of the country. The Small Business Administration tells us that small business is often the beginning of successful big business. Even when this doesn’t happen, small business keeps millions of people employed across the country, contributes to communities and to the overall health of our country’s financial situation every year.

Anyone who owns a small business has a lot to deal with. Especially in fairly new businesses cash flow can be a very tricky part of getting through every day while still building the business up. One of the very best solutions for small business is to get a business credit card.

Cards Specifically for Your Business

While many people who start their own businesses have a trouble separating their own personal money from that of the business, it can be extremely smart to get a credit card that is only used for business purchases. There are a couple of reasons for this.

  1. Tracked Spending. When you use a designated business credit card for everything you charge during the month, you have a great tool in your hands as you receive your monthly statement. You can see exactly where and what was charged and this can help you determine how much money you should allocate to each kind of expense for the next year's budget. It can also help you determine if you are overspending. If the most charged item on your credit card statement is for lunch down the street then you may want to make a new rule that food is charged to personal cards or that you use your debit card instead of your business credit card on such things.
  2. Discounts. There are many credit card offers that small businesses can use to acquire some excellent discounts or rewards points that can benefit their growing venture. Discounts from a supplier when you use a particular Visa or MasterCard can mean that your cost of goods can be reduced. If you are paying less for your inventory because of this discount, your business benefits. If you have a cash back business credit card you can also apply the discount on your credit card statement to your cost of goods as well, thus increasing your margin.

Controlling Your Business Expenses

While you may be able to take advantage of credit card offers that help you in your business as mentioned above, you can also simplify your bookkeeping and your banking by using them.

Petty cash can be an annoying part of running your business. You must put someone in charge of it and you will have to keep running to the bank to replenish it. You may even be tempted to use it to buy everyone lunch when they put in a really hard day for you. While there is nothing wrong with this, it can be much simpler for you to use a business credit card for these things. You can have cards issued to your employees for times when they shop on your behalf. If you provide expense accounts to any employees you may want to use your own cards as well. This eliminates bookkeeping by keeping all their expenses right on the one card. This can free up a lot of time you would otherwise use doing your banking and bill paying. Remember that your efforts may well be better spent on growing your business than on reconciling expense accounts.

Using Business Rewards

If your business involves travelling either for you or for anyone you employ, using a business credit card can be a great way to collect rewards. Airmiles or other travel rewards and discounts can be acquired on all purchases your business cards are used for. When someone needs to travel and visit clients or go to trade shows, you can take advantage of lower travel costs by using those rewards up. This is an excellent strategy for small businesses that cannot do without travel expenses. It is a way to keep your expenses down without a lot of effort.

Where to Find Credit Card Offers

All banks and credit card companies do not specialize in products for small businesses. You may find that you need to spend a little time doing some shopping for the best product for you and your growing business. A spreadsheet that helps you sort out the details like interest rates, fee free cards, rewards, cash back will help you determine what is available. Make sure you keep track of which Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Citibank, HSBC Bank or other credit card companies you contact on the spreadsheet so that you can really compare credit cards before you choose one for your business.

Remember that there may be a lot of credit card offers out there, but you need to make a choice for what is most advantageous for your business.
