MasterCard Roots of Rock Promo
[06:04:19 AM Thursday, July 10, 2008]
Have you ever dreamed of meeting a rock star and hearing how they got their start? MasterCard gives you a chance to do it. For its summer promotion, the company has teamed up with Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and Eric Clapton to offer five lucky MasterCard customers an opportunity to win money-cannot-buy music experiences. If you have a MasterCard in your wallet, you can meet and greet with the artist of your choice, see their performance and visit locations where they started their music career. It is the unique opportunity that few fans will ever have.
It is a well-known fact that personalization is something consumers love to experience. However, it can be difficult to offer celeb credit cards because the preferences are very individual. With "Roots of Rock Sweepstakes" promotion, MasterCard lets the winner to choose a favorite music icon among three of the world's most popular artists: Jon Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and Eric Clapton.
The MasterCard customers in the U.S. will automatically enter the "Roots of Rock Sweepstakes" every time they pay with their credit card from now till 31 August 2008. You can win a trip for four people in 2009 to meet with the artist of your choice, a tour of locations where the artists got their start (New York/New Jersey area for Bon Jovi; London for Eric Clapton; and Nashville for Kenny Chesney) and an opportunity to see their performance.
Just as importantly, MasterCard has collaborated with each of the three artists to create a virtual tour of the locations where they cut their teeth on the road to fame. The company developed a fully-engaging site for consumers where they can register and interactively explore the artists' musical histories and chart each of their rises to fame.
The site also features up-to-date information on Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and Eric Clapton: their bios, exclusive photos, concert tour dates and links to the websites where you can buy the artists' latest albums. If you visit the section called "Tour the Town", you will see hot spots of little known information about the artists.
In addition, the site offers MasterCard cardholders to download free music from Universal Music Group. It is an excellent credit card reward for using your MasterCard.
The free aspect of the campaign is limited. After you have downloaded 100,000 songs, MasterCard will begin to charge $0.80 per track. However, that price is still lower than Amazon MP3 Store ($0.89) or Apple Tunes Store ($0.99). So if you want to save on music hits downloads, apply for MasterCard and fill your iPod with quality music!
The idea to offer free downloads is beneficial for Universal Music Group as well. They will be able to take the digital market to a larger consumer database. Low prices mean that the company will continue to be the leader in music sales. Consumers that might not have ever downloaded a track may be enticed to try out the promotion and the sweepstakes. This type of growth is what the music industry will need if online sales are ever going to replace physical sales completely and successfully.
