Google adwords business credit cards have been introduced
[12:00:00 AM Sunday, August 21, 2011]
The Google AdWords credit cards have been offered to a select few U.S. search advertisers. Invites were sent out on Wednesday through e-mail to these advertisers. This card can be used only to purchase AdWords advertising. It charges no annual fee and has an 8.99% interest rate.
Claire Johnson, VP, global online sales, Google, stated that the credit card was designed to aid small as well as medium-sized businesses which advertise on Google. These businesses very often don`t have sufficient funds to support big ad campaigns that take place prior to the sales season like Halloween or Valentine`s Day. He also told Reuters that the AdWords MasterCard would be issued via World Financial Capital Bank.
The maximum and minimum credit limits will vary from one cardholder to another. However, Google did not reveal the exact number of people who would be offered the line of credit. Despite that, Google is quite likely to rack up much more by way of interest on balances. Google states that it is offering this credit card to customers due to the tough economic times that everyone is going through.
Google is taking on the role of a lender for the very first time although it has around $39 billion as available cash on hand. This card from Google is an equivalent to any of the departmental store cards.
The SMB Group partner Laurie McCabe has told InformationWeek that she cannot see occasional advertisers getting anything of value out of this card. She feels that it will not help even those with very minimum search budgets.
