Eliminating credit card debt easier than you thought

[12:00:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2011]

Though recession is now receding, there are people who are still reeling under huge credit card debts. It can be a herculean task to find the right debt consolidation option to eliminate your credit card dues. While debt consolidation will surely help pay off your dues over a period of time, there are other easier methods that you can consider as well.

To start off with, it is important to curtail your expenses. Using the credit cards to make purchases that are not really important is one of the main reasons for increased credit card debts. Making lifestyle changes and segregating the necessary and unnecessary expenses can be a good start.

If you are using your credit cards to make your home loan payments, sit back and give a thought. Is it better to sell off your house and buy another one at a later stage when your finances are better? Selling your home when you are reeling under huge debts is a wise option, especially if your income is limited. The money that you save can then be used to clear off credit card dues faster.

Finally, try looking for a credit card that offer interest free balance transfers for the longest duration possible. Transferring all the existing debt onto this credit card will save you a lot of money in terms on interest that can be channelized towards bringing down your debt.

In addition to all these, ensure you don’t reach out for the credit card for every purchase you make. Make sure you pay by cash so you stay well within your budget and prevent further accumulation of dues
