Credit Cards Future

[02:02:51 AM Thursday, October 11, 2007]

Credit cards have changed dramatically since the times when they just began to spread. First introduced in 1950s, they weren't that convenient and fast in use. Merchants needed to make special deposit slips into the bank in order to receive payments. There were only few particular stores where credit cards could be used. There also existed no rewards that we are so used to today.

It may seem that state-of-the-art society has got unlimited capabilities. We are so used to convenient services that we can hardly imagine seems almost impossible. Nowadays, credit cards are an efficient tool of payment which often acts as an I.D. Moreover, with the help of plastics you can do your shopping from home.

There is a substantial change that we have been able to feel for the last 50 years of credit cards development. Many people are wondering what we can expect in the future. What awaits credit cards?

One shouldn't limit his/her prospective in terms of technological achievements. Technology will improve. Process methods and regulations are also very likely to change.

Specialists say that hospitality industry has been a great incentive for the credit card expansion. It is the hotel industry that requires transaction process to be quick, convenient, and easy to use. So, credit card companies and banks have developed electronic transactions that actually have been serving us for the last 20 years.

Demands on the market also influence the credit card development greatly. To satisfy the customers, credit cards are doing their best. When credit card companies decide what development direction to choose, it is the business owners that have actually a greater portion of votes. Nowadays there is a great selection: cash rebates cards, point rewards cards, no annual fee cards, etc.

For example, there are lots of papers written on the problems of fraud actions. All the credit card issuers are spending millions to develop and introduce new effective security systems so that to make all the transactions safe.

Some companies view security as their top priority, whereas others try to please their customers with exclusive top-world services. For instance, in Japan many cardholders are using their cell phones, which have a special chip that has all the credit card details stored.

It is obvious that credit card companies are trying to please different client categories - they try to make a product targeted at different interests of people.

Moreover, the laws that regulate the whole credit card industry vary. Some states have already introduced their own regulations - as a result some financial institutions had to stop some unfair credit card deals.

We can't predict what is going to happen to credit card industry. The only thing that we can be sure of is that all the innovations will make our lives more convenient.
