Credit Cards Approval

Credit Card Offers Are Only Good If You Can Get Approved!

[September 07, 2007]

If you don't have a very good credit history then you may have a lot of difficulties getting approved for a top credit card. The best credit cards usually require that you have an excellent credit history and in order to get instant online approval you will need at least 720 (out of 850) on your credit score.

While there are credit card applications for bad credit, these often come with insanely high interest rates and fees through the roof. The best way to go at it if you have bad credit is to be persistent and look for the best credit card deals. If you have bad credit then it may feel as if you're always running in circles trying to build a solid history while at the same time dealing with the poor credit history you currently have.

If you're looking for specific credit cards then it will rely heavily upon what your lifestyle is. If you are a student then you want a student credit card; if you are a small business owner then you want a business credit card; if you are looking for great rewards then you can get a great rewards program with frequent flier miles and cash back rebates. If you want to work on building your credit to a reasonable amount to get the most benefits then make sure you work through some of the instances below!

Getting a Co-signer

If you have really messed up your credit and need some real help in getting a credit card then you may want to seriously consider getting a close friend or family member to co-sign a credit card with you. Those with bad credit histories may have a difficult time obtaining a credit card on their own and the good credit of a close friend or relative will help them out. You'll have to find a co-signer who you trust and who trusts you because if you miss a payment they will be liable. However, having a co-signer will build your credit history slowly until you are able to start getting your own credit card applications.

Secured Credit Cards Work in a Similar Fashion

If you love the convenience of the best credit cards yet don't have the credit to get one then you should think about getting a bank credit card application and obtaining a secured credit card. Nearly anyone can get a secured credit card because it works like a debit card and although it has the same feel as a credit card, it takes money from an account you have set up with the bank. Here's how it works: You go to the bank and deposit money into a secured account. They in turn give you a card with a VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express logo and you can spend just like a normal credit card. Each purchase you make will be taken immediately out of your secured account until it is empty. This is a great way to ensure you won't spend more then you have!

Good Credit Histories Can Be Built

While you can use either of the options above to start building stronger credit, co-signers and/ or secured credit cards, you should still try and get a normal credit card as soon as you can. A normal, unsecured credit card will build your credit faster then any other form of card and is the best thing you can do- even if you are stuck with high APR charges to start off with. Before go out applying for credit cards though you should look into how creditors view your history and how you can get the top credit card deals. After all if you don't understand the process you can't expect to get the best credit card deals!

Credit card companies decide if you are a worthy customer or not by glancing at your credit report. On your credit report they will not only see your credit score, but they will see your entire financial history including your employment and savings. A lender wants to examine to see if you are able and willing to be able to pay back your debts and if you have in the past. If you have a bad credit history to start off with it will be fairly difficult to get a good rating from them. Generally credit card companies will be looking at your past two years worth of finances.

If you want you can check out your own credit history by going to one of the three main credit bureaus in the United States- Equifax, Trans-Union or Experian. While each bureau may have a slightly different score for you, you only need to check one to find out what your lenders are looking at when they examine your credit card application. Also by looking at your credit score you can make sure that it is accurate because if you have suffered identity theft you will quickly find out by glancing through your information!

Good Credit Isn't Just a Dream

If you think that good credit is out of your reach then you are sadly mistaken. If you work hard enough and spend the time then you can improve your credit- no matter how bad it is! Checking your credit report is just the first step in ensuring your credit improves. You should also be looking to pay all of your bills on time and stay on good terms with your credit card companies. The better terms you can be on with them the better your chances at getting the best deals. Don't fall prey to credit repair companies who promise great results quickly. Many of these credit repair companies say they can improve your credit in 48 hours or less- don't believe them!

If you want to improve your credit then you can do it but you have to have patience and take the time to do it right!

You are right – it is hard to improve your credit history but it is possible. Just be patient, mind your duties, and keep in mind creditors’ advices. I managed to improve my credit, so everyone can do it.

I have received a number of different cards based on my credit. I would like a higher limit on one card.
