With the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 coming into effect many consumers felt that their credit cards are more protected than ever before. But how far is this true? Are all customers well protected by the rules of the CARD Act? The answers to these questions lie in the type of card that customers have. Card holders who have the standard customer credit cards are protected to a certain extent, while those with small business credit cards are void of any kind of protection since these types of cards are not covered under the CARD Act currently. This fact is substantiated by one of the studies conducted by the Pew Charitable Trust in the recent past.

These are cards that are given out to proprietors and other small business owners to meet their business expenses. However, unlike consumer credit cards, the credit cards under this segment are not covered under the regulations of the CARD Act.

In Texas, everything is bigger including their credit card debts. This is as per the new ranking released by Experian that clearly shows that Texas is the state with the highest debt in the United States. San Antonio has topped the list with an average card debt of a whopping $5,177 which is 20.9% above the national average. The debts levels have remained steady since 2007 in San Antonio despite an 8% drop in debt levels all over the nation.

Some experts in the financial industry feel that the new rules of the CARD act and better management of credit cards by customers has led to the decrease in the usage of credit cards. The President of Best Advantage Credit Union based in Brillion, Tammy Williams, said that the overall trend definitely shows that customers are using their cards less frequently.
