An increasing number of credit card companies offering cash back rewards

[July 06, 2011]

There was a time a few months ago when credit card lenders lured customers with rewards such as airmiles, discounts, merchandise and many more. However, such deals are now becoming a thing of the past. An increasing number of credit card lenders are offering cash back rewards on most of their cards. While the other rewards are enjoy certain level of popularity, it is the cash back reward that makes a difference to the card holders.

Mintel Comperemedia, a company that actively tracks the current offers by credit card lenders in the market, has revealed the results of a recent survey that states that the first four months of the current year has seen a surge in the number of cash back credit card offers in the market. While only 1% of the credit card offers during this period in 2007 offer cash back incentives, this year it stood at 23%.

While almost all credit card lenders are drafting excellent cash back offers, it is the ones by Chase that take the spotlight. Discover and Capital One are also not too far behind in terms of their offerings. Though these credit cards offers are too lucrative to let go off, financial experts warn that they are not void of risks. These seemingly generous offers can be withdrawn by the lenders without enough warning leaving customers in a lurch. In an urge to sign up for these cards, customers ignore the fine print which they realize only when the offer is withdrawn.
