0% APR offers are back from credit card issuers
0% APR offers are back from credit card issuers
[December 24, 2010]
The mail boxes of credit card customers are receiving offers for 0% APR credit cards, after witnessing months of accounts being closed and the credit limits constantly being lowered. The 0 percent introductory offer seems more or less like the bank's way of showing that they made a mistake and would want their customers back. Credit card customers dumped by the card issuers always seem to remember the card issuer, for being dumped is not a very pleasant affair. Now, in order to get back the customers, card issuers are going all out to please them and win them back. The 6 months 0% APR is not really very attractive. But if card issuers really want their customers back, the 24 months 0% APR can turn the tide for them as it is going to be a very attractive deal. However, the one thing that credit card customers have to be careful about is the fact that most offers are as good as empty.
Customers might get offers but then receive notices from the card issuers, which say that they don't qualify for these rates. Interestingly many card issuers use terms like 'up to', so they don't really say yes or no, but rather leave the customer believing he or she would get a good deal, but not as good as they were really expecting. According to the experts, the whole package is important because when it comes to low APR cards, what the card issuers are losing in terms of their interest, they would try to gain through the transfer fees. Sometimes card issuers try to levy as much as 3% without cap as balance transfer fee. For a 10000 dollar balance that is 300 dollars, which is quite substantial. There are other card issuers, who have levied bigger transfer fees of about 7% too.
On the other hand, credit card customers with a balance on a credit card with high interest can save the interest, but only if they use card wisely. Experts always advise to pay off the balance before the terms on the credit card change. A good example would be, under a 12 month 0% APR offer, 2300 dollar balance can be paid off at 200 dollars per month, and you are through with the balance before the end of the terms. Customers with excellent credit are in demand, so they should always look to shop around and get the best offer.
